Hi, I'm Sonia — a Korean language learner, K-drama addict, and the person behind SKAPETOKOREA. I started learning Korean back in 2010, completely self-taught, after falling down a K-drama rabbit hole that I never quite climbed out of. What started as picking up a few phrases from subtitles turned into a full-on obsession with the language, its grammar, and the culture behind it. Over the years I've gone from stumbling through Hangul to living in South Korea for a year — an experience that pushed my Korean further than any textbook ever could. Navigating daily life, making friends, and getting hopelessly lost in small towns with only Korean to rely on taught me more about real-world Korean than I could have imagined. I'm not a linguist or a certified teacher. I'm a learner, just like you — and I think that's actually an advantage. I remember exactly what it feels like to be confused by irregular verbs, to mix up 이/가 and 은/는, and to freeze up the first time a Korean person spoke to me at full speed. Every post on this site is written from that perspective: what actually helped me understand something, explained the way I wished someone had explained it to me.
